    Ok to stop taking hydroxychloroquine

I took the drug as a treatment for sarcoidosis and one of the side effects is a reduction in white blood cells, which is what has happened to me. Plaquenil is used in the treatment of sarcoidosis but its main use is in the treatment of malaria.

Can plaquenil cause a rash Is there a difference between plaquenil and generic

Do not stop taking the medication without first speaking to your doctor. Taking Hydroxychloroquine with food and/or milk can help prevent stomach upset. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Finally, my rheumatologist recommended that I stop taking the drug altogether.” Utterback’s rheumatologist also referred her to neuro-ophthalmologist David Katz, MD, in Bethesda, Md. “We don’t know which patients might develop Plaquenil retinopathy, but the patient often can see it before the doctor can,” he says. Plaquenil is a 6-weeker as far as the benefits are concerned, but it would be more dangerous to stop if you spend a lot of time outside and if this were the summer. If you're gonna experiment, I went off it cold turkey as it didn't hurt to do it that way, but you better get back on before the summer or you could experience a flare-up.

For the four years that I took the drug, my eye sight never bothered me and bi-annual eye tests revealed no changes. One of the side effects of taking the drug is that it affects eye sight, and eye tests, especially tests need to be done every six months.

If you don't have to, don't stop your plaquenil. I stopped taking the plaquenil the beginning of December. It doesn't agree with my stomach I take it with meals too. And since I hadn't had a miraculous recovery the 6 months I'd been on it, I didn't think there was any harm in stopping it. I recently decided to stop taking Plaquenil because I was having constant chest pains even more so than I usually have due to Lupus. Since I have not taken it my chest feels so much better which is odd because chest pain is not listed as a side effect. Also I noticed that the Plaquenil I think was making me feel different but not in a good way. Plaquenil isn a antiparasitic drug with anti-inflammatory affect. I have done a lot of research on this drug and haven't run into anybody who has complained of the withdrawal effect. Over the years on this site we have had quite a few people post that they didn't think that the plaquenil was working so they would stop taking it.
