Malaria is spread by mosquitoes, which transmit the parasites that cause the infection, usually in tropical and subtropical parts of the world.

Hydroxychloroquine along with 30 mg of Prednisone worked for me within 3 months and did a great job. However I had a side reaction- hallucination, so I came off the drug. Plaquenil did not work as well for me,it took about 10 weeks before I saw some effect but again I had a reaction- my fatigue got even worse and I could not stay awake. Here are 10 things to keep in mind when using Plaquenil Take it on a regular schedule, meaning at the same time each day. Take Plaquenil EXACTLY as prescribed by your physician. Do not stop taking the medication without first speaking to your doctor. Taking Hydroxychloroquine with food and/or milk can help prevent stomach upset. Follow. it but the closest feeling I've ever had to this was when I had a general anisthetic and that feeling you get just before you pass out. Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic disorder for which there is no known cure. Fortunately in the last few years, a shift in strategy toward the earlier institution of disease modifying drugs and the availability of new classes of medications have greatly improved the outcomes that can be expected by most patients. I'm back on it and waiting the 3-4 months it takes to work at least that's how long it took the first time. I have a great opthamologist who has assured me he will catch retinal damage before I will ever notice a change in my vision, so as far as I'm concerned, I want to stay on Plaquenil until I'm forced off it. Hydroxychloroquine is a DMARD. The brand name is Plaquenil. What does Plaquenil do? Plaquenil relieves pain and swelling and prevents damage to joints. How long does Plaquenil take to work? Plaquenil works very slowly. In 1 to 3 months you should start to feel better. You may continue to get better for up to 1 year.
